Where Legalization Falls Short

On this episode of Legalized, we examine the criticism and complaints many professionals and politicians have with the current cannabis legislation, Bills C-45 and C-46. We hear where some feel the legislation as currently proposed falls short or creates potential legal issues;  those who helped influence the legislation explain the reasoning behind the regulations and restrictions as they currently stand.

On this episode, David talks with the Hon. Anne McLellan, former head of the Task Force on the Legalization and Regulation of Cannabis; Tracey Ramsey, New Democrat MP for Essex; Dr. Terry Lake, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Hydropothecary and former British Columbia Minister of Health; and Jonathan Zaid, Founder and Executive Director of Canadians for Fair Access to Medical Marijuana.

Banking the Unbanked

While the front-end experience may be seamless for the user, modern payment systems are not so modern on the back end. Cross-border bank wires can go wrong, remittance fees cut deep into money sent back to one’s home country, and assets can be seized by warring governments. In this week’s episode, we explore how payments on the blockchain ensure frictionless transactions that are cheaper, faster, and free of institutional baggage.

Our guests this week are:

-Miro Pavletic, Co-Founder and CEO, STACK

-Nilesh Dusane, Chief Revenue Officer, nanopay

-Karsten Arend, President and CEO, Just In-Genius

A Brief History of Cannabis in Canada

On this episode of Legalized, we’re exploring the history of cannabis in Canada. When did cannabis first become illegal? What caused cannabis criminalization? Did we act alone as a nation or follow the lead of countries like the United States? We dive into all these questions and more on this episode.

To explain the history of cannabis in Canada, David had the chance to speak with Professor Catherine Carstairs of the University of Guelph, a historian of gender, medicine, and public health and the author of the book Jailed for Possession: Illegal Drug Use, Regulation, and Power in Canada, 1920-1961.
