A Brief History of Cannabis in Canada

On this episode of Legalized, we’re exploring the history of cannabis in Canada. When did cannabis first become illegal? What caused cannabis criminalization? Did we act alone as a nation or follow the lead of countries like the United States? We dive into all these questions and more on this episode.

To explain the history of cannabis in Canada, David had the chance to speak with Professor Catherine Carstairs of the University of Guelph, a historian of gender, medicine, and public health and the author of the book Jailed for Possession: Illegal Drug Use, Regulation, and Power in Canada, 1920-1961.
