Prior to joining Navigator in 2018, John Fenton managed media relations and provided communications counsel in Canada’s financial sector. He has also worked for CTV News, producing and reporting at both the national and provincial level.
John’s 15 years of experience as a TV journalist and corporate communicator enable him to bridge the gap between the boardroom and the newsroom. He provides an inside look at how journalists think and what a newsmaker needs to do to ensure their message is the one that makes the headline.
Before joining Navigator, he managed media relations in the financial sector, working closely with executive management teams to develop and deliver media strategies, including campaigns, public affairs, crisis communications and breaking news.
Prior to entering corporate communications, he spent 10 years as a senior producer at CTV News covering everything from infamous Canadian criminal trials, terror attacks and natural disasters to financial scandals and elections. He has managed coverage of two federal election campaigns and three Olympic Games (Vancouver, London and Sochi).
As a storyteller and strategic thinker, John focuses on the changing way people consume journalism and how the public understands and trusts information.
John received an undergraduate degree in ecology and environmental biology from the University of British Columbia and a diploma in broadcast and media communications from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
