Consultant, Ontario Government Relations Focus

Navigator is hiring a dynamic, motivated, detail-oriented consultant to join Canada’s leading high-stakes public affairs and communications team. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of Ontario’s political and regulatory landscape, including knowledge of the decisionmakers, strategic priorities and the process by which the Government of Ontario implements its agenda. Corporate or agency experience, with a strong grasp of how reputation drives enterprise value, influences regulators and policymakers, and shapes stakeholder behaviour is a benefit.

What you will do 

  • Advise corporate clients across a wide range of industries on government relations and reputation strategy in Ontario, including navigating Queen’s Park, ministries, agencies, and provincial policy-making processes. 
  • Develop and execute public affairs campaigns that align with client business objectives and policy priorities. 
  • Draft high-quality communications products tailored for Ontario’s political and civil service audiences (e.g., briefing notes, stakeholder maps, government submissions, Q&As, media lines, op-eds, executive remarks). 
  • Lead day-to-day project management, including developing timelines, supporting budgets, and delivering flawless client service in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Monitor Ontario political developments, legislation, and regulatory changes; analyze their implications for clients and translate insights into actionable counsel for senior executives. 
  • Support media relations and narrative development around Ontario public policy issues, including proactive and reactive engagement. 
  • Build coalitions and engage third parties, stakeholders, and associations relevant to Ontario’s provincial decision-making environment. 
  • Foster and grow client relationships, contributing to mandate planning and delivering measurable results. 

What you bring 

  • 5–7+ years of relevant experience in public affairs and government relations — ideally with direct exposure to Ontario provincial politics (e.g., work at Queen’s Park, in a ministry, or with an Ontario-focused association or agency). 
  • Strong commercial acumen: Ability to connect Ontario government relations and communications strategy to business objectives, risk, reputation, and financial impact. 
  • Demonstrated track record in developing materials for policymakers and executives, including briefing notes, submissions, and media-ready content. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple Ontario-focused files under tight timelines. 
  • Collaborative mindset and professional presence, with the confidence to advise senior executives and political stakeholders. 

Nice to have 

  • Bilingual in French and English. 
  • Familiarity with regulated sectors in Ontario, such as health care, energy, transportation, financial services, and natural resources.
